On June 10th, 2024, my life changed forever when I was involved in a devastating car accident. I suffered severe burns to my upper right arm, nerve damage, and lost all use and feeling in my right hand and arm. My right shoulder was separated, and both my knees and hips were badly damaged. The pain from the burns is constant, and I now struggle with mobility and daily tasks that I once took for granted.
After spending six weeks in the ICU and burn unit, I was transferred to the rehab unit at Valleywise Hospital to learn to walk again. My recovery has been long and difficult—after another six weeks in rehab, I was moved to a different hospital for PTSD and cognitive therapy. In total, I’ve been through four hospitals and spent five months fighting to regain my independence. I now use a walker to get around, and I also deal with memory loss and significant hearing loss as a result of the accident.
Before the accident, I worked in the heavy equipment dirt work industry for over 35 years. I’ve always been independent and never had to ask for help before, so reaching out like this is not easy for me. Right now, I am homeless and waiting on a determination from SSDI, which could take up to a year. I have a lawyer helping with my case, but in the meantime, I need support for basic living expenses like rent, food, transportation, and utilities. On top of everything, I also need a triple bypass surgery.
Your support would mean the world to me as I work to rebuild my life. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
